How do I compare two products?

Compare the job, specifications, total cost, and limitations—not just the product label.

    Start with the decision

Write down the job you need the product to do and the limits you cannot change: budget, available space, compatibility, and accessibility. A feature matters only if it helps with that job.

    Compare like with like

Match model years, sizes, configurations, and test conditions. A price for a base model is not directly comparable with a premium configuration. Treat missing information as unknown, not as a disadvantage.

    Check evidence and ownership cost

Read the provider's specifications, return conditions, warranty, and replacement-part costs. Distinguish published specifications from independent tests and promotional claims. Include accessories and recurring costs before deciding.

    Choose for your priorities

Rank your needs before reading a verdict. Compare the options against those needs; do not average unrelated specifications into an unexplained score. If a decisive fact is unavailable, postpone that part of the decision.
